Red List - Removed!

On 25 November 2021, the Government placed several African countries on the restricted travel list (the Red List) to curb the spread of the new #Omicron variant. After this, a further five countries were placed on the Red List.

Those travelling from the Red List must be quarantined at designated hotels and stringent tests on arrival. Only British or those with residence rights can travel to England.

As Omicron continues to spread in England with a clear indication of community transmission, the Government has decided to remove all countries on the red list as of 4 am on 15 December 2021.

As a result of this change, visitors from South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and countries that have been listed recently on the Red List will no longer need to quarantine at a quarantine hotel.

Travellers will follow standard COVID for anyone travelling to the UK, including:

  • Take a COVID-19 test – to be taken in the two days before arriving in England.

  • Book and pay for a COVID-19 PCR test – to be taken after the individual arrives in England on Day 2 of arrival. Individuals will need to self-isolate until a negative test result is received.

  • Complete a passenger locator form – to be completed in the 48 hours before the individual arrives in England.

Those who are not fully vaccinated will need self-isolate (quarantine) for ten days and undergo an additional Day 8 post-arrival test.

Children under 11 or younger will not need to undergo a pre-arrival test.

Children 5 or over must follow standard #COVID guidance (as per adult companions) when travelling to England.
